This picture simply amazes me.

It was taken by my daughter.  I found it as I was looking through her other incredible pictures on instagram.  If you know anything about my daughter, Hannah, you know she thinks about things and doesn’t feel like she needs to say a lot unless she senses the need to speak.  She ponders…she reflects….she thinks.  But it is through her lens, where you see her heart.  It is through her lens that she speaks Words of life.  It is through her lens where her voice proclaims her love relationship with Jesus.  It is through the lens, she preaches…..I am so thankful my daughter is a preacher.

I have looked at this picture since stumbling on it yesterday at least ten times.   I have been mesmerized by the truth it preaches.  The picture speaks of hope. The picture speaks of life.  It speaks of a promise. What seemed to be the end for the disciples after Jesus was crucified, was really the continuation of hope…the continuation of hope even in the midst of despair and discouragement.

The dirt on the hand depicts 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”  He took your place and my place so that we could be re-connected with God.  How amazing is that!

The picture speaks of the mud and the mire that I found myself in when I was 16 years old.  The mud, mire, and sin of this world consumed me, but Jesus took my sin and  overcame my sin through the cross and saved me on a bus while I was on a mission trip back to my hometown of Boys Ranch, Texas.

The enemy thought he snuffed out the light of the world.  He thought he had won on the day Jesus died, but three days later, Jesus arose from the tomb.  Because of that–even through the muck, the mire, the valleys, the dirt this world throws at us, The Light has called us the light.  As we follow THE LIGHT, we become the light to the world.

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”  John 8:12

“You are the light of the world–like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.”  Matthew 5:14

Today, you may find yourself ensnared in the muck and mire.  Maybe you’ve just had a terrible day.  May this picture remind you of the hope that we have in the Light of the World.  Regardless of your circumstances, he allowed himself to be murdered for your muck, mire and sin.  At such a great cost, he was willing to die for you.  He was pierced for your rebellion, crushed for your sins.  He was beaten so you and I could be made whole.  He was whipped so we could be healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

Regardless of your circumstances…..He is Still Risen.

As a believer in Jesus He will never leave you nor forsake you!

The picture speaks volumes that we don’t have to have it all together or know all of the answers or have a Leave it to Beaver type life to lift high the name of Jesus.  Simply lift Him high where you are–“let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew 5:16)

Thank you Hannah for using your talent and your wisdom to preach!

For those reading this blog, how has Hannah preached to you through this picture?

From Jason Z…….

Amazing how mud and light tell the human story as well as the story of redemption. Mud on the eyes of the blind, Jesus writing on the ground, Lights in dark places. Someone who has truly been with Jesus can light up a room simply by showing up. Hannah has preached to me in such a way and reminded me that You cannot know what light is without knowing darkness, A blind man made to see never goes back to wanting to be blind again. Maybe those who have spent more of their time in the darkness seem to shine brighter than most when their sins are removed from them and never remembered,,Shine on!
